Job Description Summary

To provide flexible laboratory-based practical expertise in upstream cell line and process development. To execute cell culture development activities and to provide technical expertise to support troubleshooting activities at both laboratory and manufacturing scale.

The role holder will be responsible for delivering commercial stages of work and communicating with internal and external customers.

  • To perform hands-on laboratory work in the cell line and upstream process development team contributing to the development of processes suitable for technology transfer to the cGMP manufacturing teams.
  • An understanding of cGMP manufacturing facility constraints and their impact on development activities will be developed.

  • Contribute to process validation / characterisation activities by performing supporting laboratory scale studies, employing DoE methodologies.
  • Interpret analytical data provided by the analytical team to define subsequent steps.
  • Deliver high quality communication to ensure an outstanding customer experience (written reports, telecons, face to face meetings).
  • Working as part of a site and global project team, co-ordinate multiple projects and ensure timely delivery of project workstages.
  • Cell culture processes : Cell line development (routine cell culture, FACS); Process Development (ambr15 miniaturized bioreactors, 10L laboratory scale bioreactors);
  • Process Characterisation (ambr250 miniaturized bioreactors, 10L laboratory scale bioreactors)

    General

  • To work to the highest scientific standards under the direction of the Line Manager. To communicate project updates to internal and external customers.
  • To contribute to the efficient running of the department including instigating and delivering operational efficiency projects.
  • Contribute to departmental safety and training programmes as required.
  • Dependent on scale of project supervision of project teams may be required.
  • The role will require weekend working on a rota based system.
  • Essential

    Practical experience in laboratory scale cell culture both in terms of process development and process characterisation.

    Experience with relavant laboratory systems (eg 10L or ambr bioreactors).

    Experience in the statistical design of expeirments (DoE).

    Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other relevant software packages.

    Desirable

    Demonstrated experience of direct interaction with external and / or internal customers would be considered beneficial.

    Exposure to cell culture processes executed in a cGMP facility would be considered advantageous.

    Knowledge and demonstrated application of the relevant ICH guidelines in the area of upstream process development.

    General
