Role purpose

The global technology function delivers all technology services to the firm. The firm uses the latest Microsoft technologies and also manages legacy and legal industry specific applications.

The department manages a significant amount of data (over 450m documents and emails are held in the document management system).

As a regulated entity the firm adopts the highest levels of information security in order to comply with frequent independent and client led audits.

Increasingly our clients’ problems are being solved with a blend of technology, process and world class legal advice. The role of technology has thus shifted from being primarily a cost center to being recognised as a revenue generator in its own rightReporting to the Global Head of Technology Services, this role proactively manages the delivery of technology services to the Asia Pacific offices.

Leading a team that spans the region, the role holder is responsible for motivating and achieving the best from a group of skilled IT professionals

Key relationships

  • Work with the Global Head of Technology Services as a member of the Technology Services leadership team
  • IT and Shared Services Director and the wider IT Heads group
  • Managing Partners in the Asia Pacific region and Partners within each Asia Pacific offices
  • APAC Advanced Delivery team and Head of Advanced Delivery (Tech) to contribute to and co-ordinate across the adoption of legal technology tools and the development of client solutions
  • Regional Support Heads and senior support staff within the Asia Pacific region
  • Work with suppliers to drive performance and deliver value for services

    The core components of this role include but are not limited to :

  • Fully accountable for delivering world class operations, infrastructure and applications services for the APAC region and for providing high quality out of hours cover to the Rest of the World (ROW)
  • Working with the IT Heads in the Technology Services leadership team - implement a sustainable 24*7*365 organisation
  • Fostering and maintaining senior support and Partner level relationships across the APAC offices. Listening to their feedback to adapt and improve technology services.
  • Ensuring, with the Global Head of Technology Services and the CTO, alignment of the technology strategy with the APAC business strategy
  • Provide leadership to the APAC team and foster a culture of service orientation, curiosity and learning
  • Working with procurement to ensure the firm receives the best possible value from its regional vendors
  • Ensure the APAC IT teams support the CISO’s information security strategy and have the information security at the fore at all times
  • Accountable for supporting the successful transition, into Production, of new solutions from Legal Technology and the Technology Change team
  • Key requirements

  • Deep knowledge of a broad range of technologies including Microsoft, Database (MS SQL, Mongo), Cisco, system performance monitoring and infrastructure (both hosted and cloud)
  • Strong leadership and people management skills including aptitude for and experience of creating, managing, motivating and developing a large and culturally diverse technology team
  • Proven commercial and financial acumen with experience of managing budgets in excess of £5m
  • High level of personal credibility, impact and influence with proven ability to work effectively and persuasively at all levels of the business
  • Successful track record of building partnerships with key vendors and shaping commercially strong win-win relationships
  • Ability to engage and educate an audience - convey technology issues in a manner appropriate to the audience's level of knowledge and understanding
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and often conflicting priorities
  • Strong business acumen and deep understanding of how the firm is positioned in the APAC market
  • Experience

  • Minimum 10 yrs. experience of IT service and operations
  • Qualifications

  • Degree qualified - preferred
  • Minimum : ITIL Foundation, ITIL Manager preferred
  • The successful candidate will be able to travel regularly, and as needed, throughout the Asia Pacific region. In addition there is the need to travel to the UK from time to time.
