The Department :

The Product & Analytics Group develops data-driven services for our large customer base in petrochemicals, energy and fertilizers globally.

We collect data and insight about these industries and enhance it with deep market understanding and tools to help decision making every day.

Our customers access our data and insight through web platforms.

Job Purpose :

You will be driving key innovation in new data-driven predictive models that will quantify impacts to one of the largest industries in the world - the petrochemical industry - a globally connected supply network.

As Senior Data Scientist, you will join our existing team of experienced Data Scientists and work closely together with our global team of market analysts.

Our developed models enable predictive scenario analysis on prices and market fundamentals to support decision making in the petrochemical industry.

You will be part of an international team, which requires occasional travel globally. As of day one, you will get responsibility in challenging analytics innovation projects.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities :

  • R&D of data-driven quantitative market models to predict market variables
  • Discuss the problem domain with customers and market experts & translate insights into models
  • Build a deep understanding of operation and decision making in petrochemical and related global markets
  • Ensure models stay understandable and computationally feasible
  • Enable and support the operation of developed solutions together with analysts to derive high-quality impact analysis
  • Program required routines and data preparations
  • Create smart ways to mitigate data gaps with strong estimates and reasonable assumptions
  • Constantly learn new techniques and apply to existing problems
  • Key Skills / Experience Required :

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of practical experience in predictive modelling, preferably in the context of price prediction or markets a plus is existing modelling experience in one of the following fields : agent based modelling, assumption based scenario forecasting, mathematical optimization, time series prediction with machine learning, statistics
  • Good understanding of algorithms and computational complexity
  • Wholistic perspective on business value from analytics and strong ability to explain with stakeholders first hand, strong communication and engagement
  • Ability to rapidly learn new problem domains and become conversant in the domain with external contacts and subject matter experts
  • Iterative development of models in teams starting with simple POCs and analytical hypotheses, ability to manage small projects and project teams
  • Basics of software development (modularisation, versioning, tests, coding standards)
  • Advanced programming skills (ideally Python) and SQL
  • University degree in a recognised quantitative science field
  • Ideally existing understanding of markets or economics
