In-line with the technical career stream, the Senior Design Engineer will operate within a project team and will be tasked with the responsibility to design, develop and verify new products from concept through to production in the most cost and time efficient manner whilst operating within ResMed Quality Standards.
The Senior Design Engineer will also mentor and guide less senior engineers / designers and act as delegate for Section Leader (or Sustaining Engineering Manager) as required.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Work within the ResMed Quality system, standards and maintain training requirements.
Work within regulatory requirements such as the FDA.
Mature approach to design with due consideration to requirements relating to marketing needs, the needs of our patients and customers, human factors / useability, patient therapy performance requirements, environmental factors and design for manufacturing and assembly.
Operate with a high level of autonomy whilst interacting effectively with, and seeking input from team members and other areas of the business including marketing, manufacturing, clinical and regulatory affairs to ensure the products being developed are appropriate and satisfy all necessary requirements
Self-management of tasks by the individual and directed by the Project Manager and / or Section Leader.
Assess, and communicate effectively, the impact of issues with internal customers.
Research, design, and development of products for manufacture.
Testing, verification and validation of designed products to ensure they meet the necessary requirements and specifications under anticipated usage scenarios and operating conditions.
Develop test / measurement capabilities according to need.
Liaise with internal customers and suppliers in relation to design issues.
Promote safe working environment within OH&S guidelines.
Provide supervision of team members (including students) as required. Act as delegate for Section Leader (or Sustaining Engineering Manager) as required.
Provide guidance to less senior engineers and take responsibility for driving the decision making process when mentoring other engineers.
Be responsible for providing design recommendations that support project deliverables.
Assist in the preparation and review of system documentation including System Specifications, Risk Analyses, Regulatory Submissions, etc.
Qualifications and Experience
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, or equivalent.
Five to ten years functional engineering experience in a product development role, preferably within the medical industry.
