The Sr. Principal position plays a key role in supporting the Global Strategic Relationships Department’s efforts to increase the Fund’s global competitiveness.
You will increase the Fund’s ability to adapt, learn and diversify its channels of information and origination by promoting greater global horizontal connectivity, strategic capacity and a relationship-centric approach that thinks beyond the deal’ timeframe.
You will be central to these efforts in Asia.
You will play a leading role in ensuring that Asia is deeply integrated into the Ontario Teachers’ global organization. You will play an integrating function in the region across asset classes, and within the organization across geographies and offices.
The Senior Principal will also play an important role in building our understanding and focusing our risk mitigation efforts in key countries in the region.
You will increase the relationship management capabilities of Ontario Teachers’ by cultivating key relationships in the Asia region, coordinating the Fund’s approach to managing strategic relationships globally, maintaining strategic dialogues with key Fund-wide partners and leveraging those relationships for differentiated information and deal flow.
Day to day, you will maintain a core objective of providing a longer-term perspective on relationships, investment opportunities, and the competitive investment environment.
Working as part of a small global team, it is essential that you be very collaborative and team-oriented, with an acute sense of building and leveraging relationships (both external and internal) and seizing opportunities that will benefit Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan as a whole.
Who you’ll work with
Based in Singapore, the Sr. Principal will be joining as a senior member of the GSR team. As the GSR member in Asia, you will have the unique opportunity to work collaboratively across all asset classes active in Asia and work closely with your GSR colleagues, based in London and Toronto, to seamlessly integrate the region into the Ontario Teachers’ global organization.
You will also help to develop and represent the Ontario Teachers’ brand with external parties in the region, with special focus on promoting greater clarity regarding the Fund’s overall strategy, approach to strategic relationships, and internal culture.
What you’ll do
Work with the Head of GSR and the GSR team to conduct a strategic assessment in relation to the CIO’s fund-wide priorities and map out objectives in the region and an action plan to achieve them
Work closely with the Regional Managing Director of Asia as part of the regional team to achieve common objectives in the region
Build strong internal relationships across all investment departments and offices
Build strong relationships with existing and prospective counterparts; foster strong strategic relationships generally for Ontario Teachers’ in the Asia region
Focus on building a coherent and effective strategy to enhance Investments’ efforts to procure differentiated local information and intelligence, and attractive deals in key markets.
Assist Head of GSR and Regional Managing Director on local market strategies for Ontario Teachers’; sit on Focus Country Committee
Work closely with Teachers’ Innovation Platform team both locally and globally to contribute to GSR efforts to cultivate and manage tier-1 corporate partnerships and other parts of the TIP relationships approach
Chair the monthly meeting of the Asia Hub which brings together key individuals within Ontario Teachers’ relevant to Asia in order to increase horizontal connectivity and elevate the priorities of the regional offices within the Toronto Headquarters
What you’ll need
Strong understanding of nexus between investments and global political and economic affairs
Minimum 8 years of work experience in consulting / banking, or global political, economic, or management consultant advisory related to large, global private or public sector institutions
Significant exposure to investments, especially in context of working with large or private or public sector institutions
An understanding of the organizational behaviour of large, global financial institutions
Strong academic background; advanced degrees in business and social science an asset
Relevant work experience advising / working within large organizations on broad, long-term strategy and relationship development
A strong interest in global affairs a major asset
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (both oral and written)
Strong team player and willingness to develop other team members
Excellent representative of Ontario Teachers’ given the high profile GSR team has both internally and externally
An ability to balance competing priorities, work independently, manage projects and thrive in a high-performance, global team, while also integrating successfully into a diverse regional team
Good command of local Asian language(s)
